Today I had the wonderful opportunity to speak at the High School Chapel of Dayton Christian.  They are such a great audience and I can always sense that they are receptive to God’s word.  Today I had the topic of Social Media’s Impact on our culture (especially in the lives of teens).  I wanted to post a few more comments, my message outline, as well as the YouTube Video that I used today so that more people can hopefully understand the imprint that Social Media is making in everyone’s life whether they like it or not.

Please take time to view the Twitterpated slides, I hope you find these helpful in understanding how social media effects us as disciples of Jesus for the good and the ill.

Comments:

Social Media is indeed here to stay.  I don’t believe this is a fad but truly is a fundamental shift in the way we communicate as people.  Yet as I look into the future of what this social media revolution will do in terms of growing the kingdom of God it truly is for His glory.  We are so very connected today with all walks of people that the gospel can be lived and practiced online as well.  But we as Christians have to get into the relational game so to speak.  We must love each other deeply (I Peter 1:22) with sincerity.  In a completely online world, this is going to be hard to achieve.  People MUST have interaction, face to face contact with people, in order to know people and be known by people.  While Facebook and MySpace offer spaces for connection to continue to occur, these spaces will ALWAYS fall short of providing people with fulfilling relationships. Deep love for people has to have life on life contact in the real world and in the cyber world.  These two spaces must meet or it will perpetuate feelings of loneliness and insecurity.

Can Social Media be used for God’s glory – absolutely.  Yet when status updates become self worship (which is pride) then we have sinned on the same levels as Satan himself.  NEVER put yourself above Jesus…EVER!
